On May 31 we will shoot Match #4 as scheduled followed by Match #2 Light Gun and Shootoffs for HG and LG. Imagine yourself sitting behind the rifle pictured here. You take your time to get all setup. Your rifle is laying rock steady and the wind is being very generous. You peer through your scope one more time and the mirage is steady. You double check the wind flags and they're steady. Breathe in then out......gentle pressure on the trigger........... and CRACK!

The gun recoils and you slide it forward and watch your bullet impact into the middle of a clay pigeon that breaks all to pieces. At 1,000yds it's quite a feeling. Your bullet took roughly 1.25 - 1.5 seconds to get there after dialing in 80-120 1/4MOA clicks into your scope and a couple of MOA for windage because the wind is always a factor. It's fun and many men, women, and young folks do it every month at our club.

Then you move over to the paper target and compete against the other shooters in your relay to see who reads the conditions the best for the smallest group and highest score shot. Two different classes are contested at every shoot. The Light gun (LG) and Heavy gun (HG) classes with 10 match held throughout the year. The LG class can be anything from a hot shooting factory gun all the way to a complete custom rig that weighs 17lbs or less, shot off from sandbags, and 5 shots are recorded for your record target. The HG class is just about a no holds barred, shoot what you bring, rifle with mechanical front and rear rests, but still uses sand bags front and rear with 10 shots being recorded for your record target. If you would like to try 1,000yd shooting then come on over and join us. Whether you have a good shooting factory rifle and just have a curiosity of how it would do, or a well tuned live varmint rig that you would like to see how it does at extended range, or an all out custom benchrest gun they're all used and the same fun is enjoyed by all. If you would like to experience the view shown above or are just curious about this unique sport then please continue on into the official web page of the North Carolina 1,000yd Benchrest Association. We will do all we can to help you get on paper and have fun. But be warned it's addicting!

With that said I'll turn it over to the Range officer for his commands............
